Ways To Find Consultant Jobs
Finding consultant jobs can seem almost impossible for those looking to get into consulting. The truth is that they are very hard to find if you don’t look in the right places. Here are some ways to find consultant jobs and some of these I use my self on a regular basis.
Most consultant jobs are found through word of mouth, the same way as with other jobs. This may seem unfair to most people who are on the “outs” but it is the way it is. This is great if you are an industry insider and have been around the industry for decades, but most of us have not.
For those of us who are not insiders it requires constantly scanning resources and contacting people. One way I have found to get a head start on a lot of people is to use “google alerts” to stay ahead of my field and find consultant jobs faster than others.
Google alerts is a simple and free system you can set up through Google. All you do is set your term or terms you want Google to search for and it will deliver it to your mail box on a daily or weekly basis. This is great.
For example if I wanted to stay up to date on what is happening in the aluminum industry I would set a google alert for “aluminum.” Also I would set other google alerts for related terms, like metal, canning, or presses.
Then anytime people post new material on the web related to any of those terms you will get an alert in your mailbox. This is a great way to stay ahead of other people.
Also set a google alert for “consultant jobs” that way not only will you find job listing, but you will also have lots of information coming straight to your mailbox.
Being a great consultant means being up to date on your industry. For my industry I have 12 alerts alone, some set for daily delivery and some set for weekly depending on how important they are to me.
In later posts I will talk much more about finding consultant jobs, which is the hardest part of being a consultant in my opinion.
