Ways To Establish Yourself As A Business Consultant
How to become a business consultant? That is a good question, but if you have been reading my blog, you realize that you have to be much more specific. What types of business do you want to focus on? What sectors of the industry do you want to focus on? New consultants have to focus on one small niche when starting out. Don’t make the mistake of trying to do too much too soon.
For this post we’ll go over some possible ways to establish yourself as a restaurant consultant. First of all you should focus on one niche. You could focus on helping franchises or family restaurants. You could help start up restaurants or older restaurants looking for new blood.
When you first start out you should try and volunteer somewhere in order to get some references. Try to volunteer at local food banks, or free meal centers. Help them to manage their operations better, and help them cut costs, or serve more people.
Although we do this for free we are getting our feet wet and will get a great reference you can use later. if you don’t want to take this approach you could contact several franchises in your area that appear to be struggling and offer to help them revamp their business for a cheap rate, in hopes they’ll also give you a great reference.
Some restaurants you find need a complete makeover, while others perhaps just need help with payroll, management, or supply sourcing.
When you are first starting out as a consultant you need to be careful about which jobs you take. While any job can look great when you need one, some jobs are no win situations.
If you do find yourself in a no win situation, get out as soon as possible. Some people do not know how to work well with consultants, especially some family owned restaurants that are used to doing things their own way.
